Sobering

As I was leaving the S-bahn station on my way to playing billiards last night, I noticed this plaque on the outer wall of the platform I had just stepped from.

This is what my translation software says:
'Here was the stairway to the station Deutz. From here in 1940/41 more than 1500 sinti and roma and since 1941 over 11500 Jews in concentration camps were deported. In addition the prisoners of the fair camp Deutz were removed here. Over these stairs many humans went. Into death.'

Whoa. Where is this station, Brandi? I don't remember seeing it at the ones we frequented but I know you are going all over the place now. A Cologne regular.

Have you seen our German friend we met on the first day? I was wondering if this is who you played pool with. If you see him again, please tell him I said hello. I would like to e-mail him even if it is through his brother's e-mail.

Anyhow, we are presenting the trip to Riverview this weekend. Should be interesting. Take care, Brandi.

The station is Messe-Deutz (near the hostel). They put the plaque on the wall opposite from the one that most people use.

Yes, the billiards guy is the one who played Ultimate with the group and pool with Pete, Jenny, and I.
