Constant Rescue

Mood: loved
Noise: Don't Know Why by Norah Jones

"Within the structure of the modern church a stray belief has developed regarding effective ministry. It is a completely recognizable tattoo on the outer skin of the evangelical community. It presupposes that the qualifying attribute of effective evangelism is a squeaky clean image. It implies that we are good witnesses for Christ only when we have our world in proper perspective, our spiritual life in order, and our suit dry cleaned and pressed. It is this doctrine that cuts at the Achilles heel of true faith. . .the idea of such perfect imaging was created by people who have long forgotten they too are in constant need of rescue" (A Deeper Walk, xi).
